Because Ananda was crucial to the inception of this foundation, it is with a special and deep pleasure that we celebrate you. We have been blessed with many visits to Ananda, and what we have learned there changed the path of our lives. As we grew through meditation, we were moved to form an organization that world celebrate people whose lives reflected a true spirit of generosity and compassion - those who "act from the heart." We named the Sullivan Ballou Fund after a civil war soldier whose sweet heart is immortalized in a letter to his wife found after his death.
Parvati, you are exactly the kind of person whom the Sullivan Ballou Fund seeks to recognize and affirm. We have learned that in the best sense of the word you have been a pioneer for God. You were one of the early members to make a commitment to Ananda. After "pioneering" the Master's Market, you and your husband Pranaba, have pioneered most of the Ananda Colonies, serving in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Dallas, Seattle, and Portland. You have gone where you were needed. Now we know you are forging ahead again to energize Planned Giving, a vital role for Ananda's future, and that soon you will oversee the Ananda Meditation Groups around the country.
Your willingness to see what was needed and do it for the benefit of the community, without thought of personal reward or security for your own future, perfectly reflects the spirit of Sullivan Ballou that our fund seeks to honor and preserve. Hearing stories like yours inspires us and teaches us that the path to true happiness and peace is through selfless service. It is an honor to be able to recognize you and your contributions in this small way. Thank you for the example you have set for us and for many others.
Congratulations! Elissa and Bruce Peterson, Founding Members
